Potato Plant

I had some potatoes at home that had started to sprout.  I brought them to school to show the class and we decided to plant one to see if it would grow.  The kids loved watering it!  (Good fine motor practice). Today, we noticed that a plant is growing!

Mixing Colors

We have been mixing colors in the classroom.  It is a good activity to learn about making different colors, but is also great for developing Fine Motor Skills and Language.

Learning Outside

It has been warmer and dryer outside and we have been taking advantage of the nicer weather to play outside.

I played with a hoe and started to make some letters in the sand.  I drew the initial letters in the names of some of the children who were playing nearby.

Two of the students thought it was a good idea, and made the letters "T" and "D".   This is a fun way to get some literacy skills in!

Teacher Tom: Not Helping

Parents often have a difficult time with letting go of their "caregiver" role and continue to do things for their Preschoolers when the children are capable of doing things for themselves. I often observe this with dressing and undressing routines, where parents help with shoes, coats, hats etc. when their children should be encouraged to be independent and at least try to do what they are capable of.   Teacher Tom has a post on his blog that addresses this issue with play. It is an interesting read.
