Play Dough

Mrs. W made some new play dough for us.  We had lots of fun with it.  It helps build strong muscles in our fingers...muscles that we will need to hold a pencil properly when we are ready to print.
Lots of language was going on, too, as we talked about what we were doing with the play dough.  We even practiced our social skills by asking to share the tools.

Fun with Scissors!

This afternoon a few of the children discovered an old catalogue that they used for cutting.  They were very excited to find toys that they desired and to cut them out and save in envelopes to take home.  It was great for cutting skills, but I also heard a lot of language and a lot of social skills being practiced as they negotiated who was going to get which picture.  They amazed me with the sharing and cooperation they demonstrated.  Way to go Pre K!

Retelling a Story

Today, Miss M decided to make a book during Playtime.  She folded a piece of black construction paper in half and announced that she was making a book. I asked what the book was about, and she said, "The wolf and Little Red Riding Hood."  She proceeded to retell the story and made squiggly lines  (pretend writing) as she did so.  This is what reading, writing, and literacy looks like in Pre K. I am so proud of her!

Potato Plant update

Our potato plant is getting lots of care and is growing very tall.  (The kids love to water it!). Thought you might like to see a pic of how big it is getting!

Clay Boats

We have been playing at the water table for a few weeks.  Today, I introduced the idea of making boats from plasticine.  Some of the children really got into it.  They showed persistence and tried and tried to mold the plasticine until it made a boat that floated.  It was tricky business, as often their attempts did not float.  I was proud of their persistence.  It is great for Fine Motor development, too.  Good work!

Our Tadpoles Have Arrived!

Our science table has some small toys to demonstrate the lifecycle of frogs.  Eggs, tadpole, tadpole with legs, froglet and Frog.

Today, the live tadpoles arrived.  We put them in our aquarium and will be watching and waiting for the next stage in their development.  They look pretty tiny right now.  Those tiny black specks are tadpoles!
