Tire Swing
The children have lots of fun on this tire swing. Of course, lots of Gross Motor Skills are being developed....it is difficult to climb up. But lots of Social Skills are being developed too. The children learn to wait for a turn on the swing and they learn to take turns pushing.

Learning to Line Up
Playing outside helps to develop Gross Motor Skills in children. But other skills are being developed while playing outside, too. I had to snap these pictures when I saw that the kiddos had lined up to play on the slide. Sharing, taking turns and lining up are difficult concepts for children to learn when they first start school. Here, they managed it all on their own...no help from adults!

Cutting Lanterns
This week the children had fun cutting lanterns. It was difficult for some of them, but I am proud to say that they were persistent and did a good job. Did you know that good cutting skills help your child become a good printer? Printing requires strong muscles in tiny fingers, hands and arms. We call this "FINE MOTOR SKILLS". The better children are at cutting and other fine motor skills, the easier it will be for them to print when they are ready to learn to print.

Jack-o-lanterns
On Monday and Tuesday, some of the students chose to turn their fingerpainted pumpkins into Jack-o-lanterns. The jack-o-lanterns will remain in the classroom to decorate the room for a few days before the children will bring them home.

Finger Painting: Yellow and Red
This week, we finger painted with red and yellow paint. We saw that yellow and red mixed together makes Orange....perfect for pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns!
