Winter Weather?
The weather has been very warm lately....more like Spring than Winter. We have been taking advantage of the nice weather to play outside. We are building strong Gross Motor Skills muscles when we play outside. Strong Gross Motor Skills make it easier to develop strong Fine Motor Skills- the skills children will need when they are ready to learn to print.
Playing outside also helps develop Social Skills and Language. Planning, cooperating, and negotiating are all part of building snow creations and playing on the equipment outside.
Shadow Play
We made Groundhog pop up puppets. Here, Miss S is playing with her puppet. She pretended it was her pet and she was brushing his fur.
When we went outside, she pretended to be a groundhog popping out of her burrow. It was sunny, so she quickly went back into her hole. Oh, no! Six more weeks of winter!
We set up an old overhead projector as a light source, and the students had a lot of fun playing with shadows.

Creativity in Our Classroom
We do not often prepare an organized craft that everyone participates in, but rather art supplies are made available for the children to create what they wish. Children learn much more from creating something that they are truly interested in. This week, There were some very creative creations!

Early Literacy
We are continuing to talk about letters of the alphabet in Pre K. Children are interested in the letters in their name and some children recognize the letters in classmates' names. We have fingerprinted over letters of the alphabet and practiced printing letters in shaving cream. Mmmm the room smells so nice when we play with shaving cream!
