Hammer and Nails Invitation

I planned a few new activities for the class today.  I put the Halloween costumes away and brought out the doll house for under our Reading Loft.  I brought out a few new puzzles.  I brought out the farm animal toys and some books about farm animals.  But, the activity that I think will grab the most attention is the hammer and nails.  Some parents were kind enough to donate some wood working tools and I set up this invitation to play.  

I think the children are going to love it!  It will help fine motor skills as they try to manipulate the materials.  It will help improve language as I'm sure they will have lots to say about their experience and Mrs. W and I will expand vocabulary by having conversations with the children about their play.  It may be a challenge for some of the students in the Social Skills domain.  Waiting for their turn and sharing are important Social Skills that we have been working on and this will help the students practice this skill.  I am looking forward to the reaction to this new activity on Monday.
